This site is all about culture and different art forms of Argentina, especially music, musicians and music venues. On this web site and the various posts and pages published here, the readers will find a lot of information on different aspects of the culture in Argentina as well as some similarities and differences when compared to other Spanish speaking countries, especially in Europe and in Latin America. We could start by mentioning that the capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires, a rather bohemian city, crib and home to tango music, where it was conceived during the second half of the 19th century.

Argentina is the southernmost country in the world and, thus the nearest to the Antarctic. There is a province called Tierra del Fuego (the Land of Fire) which European discoverers and expeditionists, especially Nordic ones, have compare to Iceland due to its rocky, icy formations, icebergs and volcanic soils. Tierra del Fuego is known as “el fin del mundo” (meaning the end of the world).

Argentina is a country that was forged thanks to a few waves of mass migration from Europe to the region known as Rio de la Plata, also known as River Plate, (River Plate being one of the widest rivers in the world, which separates Argentina from Uruguay). Much like the US, Argentina and Uruguay are countries of immigrants. Both Uruguay and Argentina were part of the same legislative administration during the Spanish rule in South America, namely The Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.
